Tancol - Leather Dyes
Tancol range of leather dyes are engineered Sulphur dyes especially
designed to suit the leather constitution. Chemically they are thiosulphuric
acid derivates, amorphous colloidal material of high molecular weight and have
variable composition. Tancol Dyes are water soluble colours and are free from
salt and sodium sulphide. Due to their excellent wash, perspiration and light
fastness properties they can be used to dye practically all types of leather.
Tancol have good tinctorial value and enable the dyer to produce various fashion shades.
Technique & Scope
Leather is fibrous material composed of animal tissue of skin protection Collagen.
Protein is amphoteric in nature and can combine with acid [ anionic ] as well as bases [cationic] and reacts with vegetables, synthetic and mineral tanning compounds. When the basic amino groups are occupied by vegetable and synthetic tannis less sites are available for reacting with dyestuffs.
Mineral tanning compounds react with carboxyl groups leaving the positive amino group free of the chrome-collagen complex to form linkage with the dyestuff. Alkyl sulphonic group present in Tancol dyes makes them highly soluable in water and helps to achieve a appreciable penetration in Full Chrome, Semi –Chrome, vegetable and synthetic tanned leather. The physical adsorption and the ion – pair formation between Tancol dyes are reactive sites the leather gives excellent fastness properties and natural look to the leather.
Dye uptake is greatly influenced by the kind of tannage employed and the pH of the dyebath. Tancols are readily soluble in water at high concentration and can be added to the dyeing drum in the dry state. They act as mordant for the basic dyes when required to top dyes the leather.
Chamois and Nappa leather is widely used in the Gloving and Clothing industry. One of the main properties of Chamois leather is that it can be washed with soap or soda solution with safety. Tancol dyes are fast to washing and are best suited for such leather where high degree of fastness is required.
